Developing Readers

In third grade we are interacting with books throughout the day, every day. Students independently read, read with a partner, read to collect facts and read to learn about topics related to science and social studies. Students also meet in small groups with a teacher to practice specific reading skills (guided reading). The class also enjoy interactive read alouds, during which the teacher reads a book out loud to the class to model and practice a specific reading skill together. Additionally, books are often used to start discussions about social-emotional issues and citizenship.
